HONK!

 

I lost track of what I hadn't blogged yet in the run up to Empire, and it turns out I hadn't shown off these two. They're made by Northumbrian Tin Soldier, and when I saw them I felt I had to pick them up. They're sold under the wonderful names of "Sergeant Honks and Norbert Billington".

I have no doubt that they are going to cause problems on purpose.

A busy week

 

It's been a busy week hobby wise. I got a bunch more Infinity models that I had assembled based and undercoated. I still need to check I didn't miss any spots and get the zenithal done.

I also went down to Bethnal Green for the first Hackney Area Tabletop Enthusiasts Infinity tournament. It was just a small one to work things out, but was good fun. I'll hopefully post a write up later.

I've finished a couple of Northumbrian Tin Soldier minis, which I haven't had time to take fancy photos of them just yet. I'll get them up soon.

It's preparation time for Empire at the moment, I may be quite for a little. But the hobby wagon is careening along at a reasonable rate now, so there's plenty to come.

A few different things

 

I've been pottering along with the painting, getting started on these two geese watchmen from Northumbrian Tin Soldier. They're fun little models and not too complicated, so should get done soon.

I'm also nearly finished on the Beastgrave Scenery Pack, and you can also catch in the background that I'm getting much closer to done on three Nox Troopers and a Cadmus I've had half done for a while. I'm going to be glad when these ones are all finished, and its feeling like I'm into the home stretch.

I've also fitted in a practice game of Infinity for St Albans Smackdown, an Infinity tournament which you may be able to guess is held in St Albans. I also attended St Albans Smackdown, and will put a report of how I did up a little later.

All in all, it's been a good week. With a long weekend coming up next weekend I'm hoping to finish off a couple of painting projects to leave me in a good place as we enter into September and the autumn...

Salute 2021: Northumbrian Tin Soldier

 

Northumbrian Tin Soldier are a miniature company I'm very fond of. They have a distinctive style to their miniatures that I like. My failing so far has been finding a game or project I could use them with.

They're excellent at small little fae creatures, and have also produced themed collector boxes, such as "The Cats of Crumpton".

I've been a fan of dwarves for quite a while now, so many a few of their "Beardfolk"?

No, wait. They have adorable crow people. I already play a Kenku in D&D, and a little Murder would be fun to paint. (I also found an angry hedgehog miniature while researching this post on their site, and it is sorely tempting my purchase count...)

I particularly love the character all their sculpts have. So many of them have really strong personalities that shine through.

I'm pretty sure I've got a few bits of their scatter terrain lying around somewhere. Maybe I can dig that out and get it done some point soon?

At one point, I did have their goblin box as part of a goblin army project I've since cancelled. I sold it as part of the Great Goblin Clear Out. Maybe one day, when the backlog is back under control, I can pick up a few to use in D&D.

Work in Progress Wednesday: A few random models

 

These are the last assortment of models from this batch of metal assembly, and are things I couldn't really fit into any other category. Also, I'd finished assembling a couple of plastic models myself, so included those, too!

First up are these adorable geese by Northumbrian Tin Soldier. They produce a pretty eclectic range of quirky miniatures, and I'm a big fan. These Watch-Geese were something I just had to get and paint, I don't have a particular plan for them.

Next up are a couple of Leonx riders from the defunct Runewars game. I picked them up from the Bad Squiddo discount bin. They'll see a use in D&D or similar as big cat mounted elves is a nice unusual look that I don't think many people have done.

The plastic quality is closer to board game pieces than wargaming models, but they're fine. Particularly for D&D, and being heavily discounted, they should be a fun couple of miniatures.

The box they came in had four riders in two different poses. I've assembled two and am going to sell off the other two as I'm not a fan of duplicate poses. They were cheap enough that I don't really mind what I get for their compatriots...

Returning to metal, I'd picked up this Gnoll Chieftan from North Star Miniatures along with some other bits and bobs. I've grown to really like gnolls, both from an aesthetic stand point, and their D&D lore. In most settings, they're horrible fiend worshipping cannibals, which makes them excellent villains.

Meanwhile, in Eberron, a faction of Gnolls called the Znir Pact decided they'd had enough of the violence that being fiend worshippers brought them and swore a pact to accept no more masters, be they fiend or mortal. They work out their fiendish urges through mercenary work, and Keith Baker's Exploring Eberron has a suggestion for them as a PC species. I am really keen on playing one if I can find the right game...

Salute 2015: Obligatory Materialist Post

I was tempted to call this year's post Salüt, but I wasn't sure how well Blogger would cope with that in a title...

First up, we have the Salute free miniature this year - an Agincourt model. I'm not sure what exactly I'll do with him, but I'm sure I'll think of something.

I picked up a few bits and pieces from Resina Planet. Vorfang is one of their Orc sculpts. Euphoria is a little skirmish game they had, and it came with four figures, so I thought I'd give it a go. That meant I spent enough money to get their show model - a character called Undertaker for Euphoria.

I picked up the "Moss Triad" of Foundry paint to try out on Vorfang. I saw someone else's Orc painted with these colours and thought it looked awesome. Lets see if I can replicate that...

Here are a few food themed Snorklings, sculpted by Kev Adams, that I got with my purchases at the Warmonger stand. Aren't they the adorablest?

Here are some chaos critters from Eureka Miniatures. They're a bunch of weird things based on the paintings of Bosch and Breugel. They're not up on the website yet, but I'm told they will be relatively soon. Eureka were also running a game of Two-up because of Anzac Day, although I didn't participate.

Then I went to EM4 Miniatures. They have Many Things. But what I was looking for primarily was their Scavenger range, which I have been looking at thoughtfully for a while since I saw them on someone else's blog a while ago. They are apparently originally by someone else, but EM4 bought them up when the original company went under.

I also got these "Phagons" from EM4 Miniatures, which are from an old "Spacelords" range. You can't get them on the EM4 website, but you can see a lot of what they have on the Spacelords Facebook Page. Obviously, I'll be using these as Beastmen.

 Here's my Hasslefree purchases this year. Unfortunately, it looks like Boudi and Maika have both taken a small knock due to my careless handling since I bought them. Still, I'm reasonably sure both are salvageable - but it does remind me to be careful of metal miniatures, as they can get damaged just as easy as resin ones with bad handling.
 

I bought a Sea Queen from Paranoid Miniatures. They're working on a Cthulu inspired game which seems to be called Mythos.

Continuing the aquatic and tentacle theme, here's a Squiddo from the Dice Bag Lady. She doesn't just do Dice Bags now. She's stocking a wide range of sensibly dressed female miniatures, and is also starting to commission her own.

The last thing I picked up at Salute were a few bits and pieces of Reaper Bones from DMB Games. Their main thing is dungeon parts, but they had some boxes of Reaper Bones minis to pick through, so I grabbed some bits and pieces - a Gorgon, some Kobolds, a couple of Hobgoblins, and some Goblins.

Oh yes. Goblins.

It seems that Salute this year was the year of the Goblin Related Accident. Here's a wide range of goblins from Midlam Miniatures. You may remember them from last year's Salute post for their game Stalagbite. I also got their Imps to use as a different "tribe" of Goblins.

I also got the Daywatch from Northumbrian Tin Soldier's "Nightfolk" range. I'm planning on getting some more of the Nightfolk when I've finished painting the ones I have and my wallet has stopped crying.

I got a whole bunch of goblins from Otherworld Miniatures too. They have a pretty wide range of classic D&D style stuff. Sadly (or perhaps fortunately for me) they'd sold out of some of their other goblin models by this point.

I didn't pick up a huge amount from Heresy this year, as I have a Kickstarter order coming from them. Still, a goblin command group will come in handy for all the goblins I've already got, right?

 And here is where the goblin madness started... I bought a bunch of the new goblins from Warmonger Miniatures. They have a definite old school feel, and I'll be the first to admit I like some a lot more than others. Still, they have sent me down a path of goblinoid madness...
